JUST TAKING A QUICK GLIMPSE at a vetrepreneur’s resume will most likely reveal an incredibly strong-minded personality. Probably, it will also reveal a succession of varied and challenging positions built upon a rock solid foundation – with more than a few career detours along the way. For veterans, the path to becoming a successful business owner sometimes has its own unique set of hurdles and opportunities.
These vetrepreneurs were brave enough to start their own companies, and they ended up a force in contracting.
Dave Guerra has landed contracts and subcontracts all across the country in the four years since he started Puente Technology LLC, a 15-employee construction and IT company, including the Pentagon, Andrews Air Force Base and Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Ohio — in part thanks to federal incentive programs for veteran-owned businesses that helped him leverage his existing ties to those communities.
